Former Brewers (and Wisconsinites) Team Up at Woodchucks Golf Outing

Woodchucks Manager Jim Gantner was in Wausau Friday for the Woodchucks Golf Outing and he brought along a familiar name from the Brewers' glory days, pitcher Jerry Augustine.
These two actually played against each other in college. Gantner at Oshkosh and Augustine at La Crosse.

MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Ryan Braun hit two home runs for the second game in a row to lead the Milwaukee Brewers to an 8-3 victory at Miller Park tonight. That gave the Brewers wins in three games of a four-game series with the St. Louis Cardinals.

The Woodchucks add two catchers to their 2008 roster. Geoff Klein is a sophomre at Santa Clara University and also plays the infield. Carson Vitale is also a sophomore and plays at McLennan Community College.

The UW-Stevens Point baseball team took home its fourth straight WIAC tournament title beating UW-Whitewater 3-0 Saturday afternoon. The Pointers were paced by a huge pitching performance from Garrett Nix who went eight strong innings, striking out nine batters. Doug Coe provided the offensive spark hitting a two-run homer in the first inning. The Pointers now wait to see who they'll be playing in the NCAA tournament. In high school baseball, Stevens Point handed Wausau West its first conference losses of the season sweeping the Warriors in a doubleheader. The Wausau Wolfpack lacrosse team split two games on Saturday afternoon.

The UW-Stevens Point baseball team entered WIAC tournament play on Friday and got wins over UW-Oshkosh and UW-Whitewater to move into Saturday's winner's bracket. UW-Stevens Point now just has to win one game Saturday to capture the tournament title. On the golf course, Merrill won leg two of the Wisconsin Valley meet at Merrill Golf Club. Wausau East's Anthony Aicher was the medalist with a score of 71. Wisconsin Rapids now has the overall meet lead. On the baseball field, DC Everest swept SPASH.
